Structure of government in Pakistan.

Pakistan has parliamentary form of government in which parliament is the most supreme institution. The main purpose of the parliament is to make policies and laws for the all the persons living inside boundaries of Pakistan and those who subject themselves to constitution of Pakistan. Parliament is divided into two houses; upper house (Senate) and the lower house (National Assembly).

National assembly has 342 members, out of which 272 members are elected directly by the citizens of Pakistan while remaining seats are reserve seats for women and minorities.

There are four provincial assemblies where MPAs are elected by the people or the respective province. Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir have their own assemblies where members are elected by people of respective territories.

Pakistan has federal government in which the lower house has seats on the basis of population while in upper house i.e. Senate, there is equal representation of all the provinces. That is why senate is called as a symbol of federation.
